ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF AGIOS NIKOLAOS
The Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos is one of the most important in Crete and operated since 1970. Its collections include important archaeological findings from throughout Eastern Crete, an area that stretches from Malia until Zakros. The exhibits are organized in time, from the Neolithic period (5700 - 2800 BC) until the Roman period (100 BC - 400 AD). More than 1500 vessels of the 3rd millennium BC, several gold and bronze objects (the most ancient found in Crete) adorn the showcases.
AGIOS NIKOLAOS
Agios Nikolaos is an international and cosmopolitan resort that welcomes thousands of visitors. Located in the picturesque bay of Mirabello with clear blue waters, with its beautiful beaches and wonderful climate.
The Lake is the most beautiful ornament of the city. According to the legend, Athena and Artemis bathed in its waters. Joined to the sea by a narrow channel, while the natural surroundings of red rock and trees make a magnet for visitors. LATO-Antike Stadt
One of the most famous and best preserved ancient cities of Crete. Built by the Dorians in the 7th century BC. It flourished from the 4th to the 2nd century BC, and was one of the most powerful cities of Crete. Located 3km from Kritsa is built at a point which offered defensive coverage, overlooking the Bay of Mirabello between two peaks that were the two citadels. KRITSA
Kritsa is one of the oldest and largest villages of Crete. It is built on two hills at the foot of the mountain Kastellos at an altitude of about 365 meters. The inhabitants are descendants of Latous Eteras, whose ruins are located 3 kilometers north east of the village. Despite the advent of modern lifestyle in today Kritsa, the genuine local tradition endures with the traditional production of goods, the habits and customs, the feasts, the festivals and folk art.

The most famous Byzantine monument in Crete (13th-14th century). Is located 9km southwest of Agios Nikolaos, near the village of Kritsa. Three aisled church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, St. Antonio and St. Anna. The site of the church is full of frescoes from the 14th and 15th century and images that are among the most extraordinary in Greece.



LASITHI PLATEAU
The Lassithi plateau at an altitude of 850 meters covers an area of ​​25,000 acres. It is a fertile plateau which is famous for its production of vegetables and fruits. The road circling the plateau has a distance of about 23 kilometers, and during this journey one can pass through the 21 villages that are built on it. The peaks of Mount Dikti surround the plateau and creates landscapes of unique beauty. From the village of Psychro you can reach the cave of Diktaeon Andron(Psychro Cave).

The cave is one of the most important and well known caves of 3000 found in Crete or 8500 found in Greece. Is located 48 km from Agios Nikolaos, at an altitude of 1025m near the village of Psychro, on the northern slopes of Mount Dikti which dominates the Lassithi plateau and the entire eastern Crete. An impressive cave rich in stalagmites and stalactites, famous since ancient times was dedicated to the worship of Zeus, where according to legend was born at.

KATHARO PLATEAU
16 km west of Kritsa 1,150 meters above sea level lie 60,000 acres of lowland, planted with cereals, vegetables, vines and fruit trees. Thousands of sheep reared on the slopes and give excellent quality milk products. It is a paradise for nature lovers and ideal place for hiking. The Plateau is also of particular scientific interest due of the discovery of existence of fossils, dwarf elephants and hippopotamus, by paleontologists.

Elounda is built on the site of an ancient Minoan city Olous, one of the most powerful cities of Cretan antiquity, with a sanctuary, harbor and its own currency. SPINALONGA (KALYDON)
Spinalonga is a small rocky island with an area of ​​85 acres at the north entrance of Elounda Bay of Lasithi, which due to its strategic position was fortified and acquired through the centuries different roles and uses.
In 1579, the Venetians built a strong fortress on the island, on the ruins of an ancient citadel. The Venetians maintained control of the island even after the conquest of Crete by the Ottoman Empire in 1669, and had control of the island for nearly half a century until the capitulation of 1715.
After the departure of the Turks (1898) from Crete, by decision of the Cretan State (1904) Spinalonga has defined as a place of residence to the lepers of Crete and later the to the whole of Greece. Prewar hosted more than 300 Lepers in the leprosarium under the name "St. Panteleimon", but in the 1960s was abandoned altogether.
In 1970 the island was declared a protected archaeological site. Excavations begun as well as maintenance work on the walls. Some years later, the successful best seller novel by Victoria Hislop "The Island", with reference center of Spinalonga attempted successfully to demolish social prejudice reviving a time when nobody wanted to remember.
Today, Spinalonga is considered one of the major attractions of Crete, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world.

An uninhabited island with exotic physiognomy located 8.5 miles south of Ierapetra. Access to this is done daily with boats departing from the port of Ierapetra (10:30 am - 12:30 am, times vary according to the season). Main features of this island is the golden sandy beach with crystal clear turquoise waters, numerous shells and rare cedar trees. On the island there are also traces of Minoan culture, such as half sunken port jetty. A wonderful marine wealth with fossils that have been found on volcanic rocks, dating from 350 thousand to 70 thousand years ago when it was still immersed in water. Due to this beautiful ecosystem, the island is part of the European network of protected landscapes of natural beauty (NATURA 2000). East of Chrissi is another small island named Mikronisi, where seals find shelter in its caves.
